U4: Area of Triangles

The five most important steps to solve the questions on this topic are:


1. Decide or find the base. (turn the base towards you if necessary)


2. Next look out for the highest point (or vertex) of the triangle. It is 'opposite' the base.


3. From this vertex, draw (using a ruler) a straight and perpendicular line down to meet the base. (if your base is too short, you may extend it by drawing a dotted / imaginary line) That line will be your perpendicular height.

4. Apply the formula 1/2 x base x height

5. Write the correct unit for the answer (for area).
